On Saturday, Jan. 7, the City of Wasilla hosted the Wasilla Centennial Ball at the Menard Sports Center.

“It’s like a big family reunion of people that associate with Wasilla,” Mayor Bert Cottle said. “Whether it’s work, play, friends, business, shopping. A lot of people here don’t live in the city, but they associate Wasilla as their base. It’s a good time to reflect on where we were, what we’re doing now, and where we’re going.”

The ball was a kick-off even to a year of celebrating Wasilla’s 100th year as a city. The Frontiersman captured folks who were there enjoying the festivities. Myrtle Gislason, 98 of Wasilla, cut the centennial celebration cake with Mayor Cottle. Gislason has been a Wasilla resident since 1945.
