CHUGIAK — The Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center always has something going on for its residents and the surrounding community.
“It’s coming together,” Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center public relations and fundraising coordinator Heather Sommerville said.
The center is preparing for its first Halloween event since the onset of the pandemic, according to Sommerville. The event starts at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, featuring games, prizes, and plenty of candy for trick or treaters.
“We will have hundreds of kids come through the center,” Sommerville said.
The center recently held a back to school drive for Chugiak Elementary School. Sommerville said that it was their first year attempting this project and they plan to hold this particular fundraiser every year from this point forward. She said she was happy with the overall results of their first back to school drive.
“It actually turned out really great,” Sommerville said.
The senior center is participating in a community health fair hosted by the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce Saturday, Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“It’s fabulous and I’m all about the community. Putting on these events makes my heart happy,” Sommerville said. “This is a community center.”
The Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center holds numerous events and activities for its members every week such as music jam sessions, crafting and painting activities, and gardening.
