Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

ANCHORAGE — Colony junior Peggy Mathis recorded another pair of wins during the Anchorage Invitational Saturday at Dimond High School.
Mathis, who won three state titles last season, finished first in the 200- and 400-meter events Saturday. Mathis clocked a time of 57.63 seconds en route to a win in the 400. She also set the 2014 state season best for the event. Mathis, who also owns the top time in the 200 this year, won the 200 Saturday with a mark of 25.66. Mathis was also second in the 100.
Mathis helped Colony, the lone Valley school in the 14-team invitational, place fourth in the girls’ standings with 53.5 total points.
Chase Stephens finished second in a pair of events for Colony. Stephens was the runner-up in the 100 hurdles and the triple jump.
Brandon Schafer helped lead Colony to a seventh-place finish in the boys’ team standings. Schafer was third in the 1,600 and fifth in the 800. Lyon Kopsack was fourth in the 1,600, and Fischer Summers placed third in the shot put.
Colony is next hosting the Colony Invitational, which starts Friday.
