Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Constance Kay Ficcaglia, 60, died Dec. 31, 2010, in Wasilla due to the affects of early onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Mass is at 9 a.m., Tuesday, June 7 at Saint Michael Catholic Church in Palmer with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Wasilla.
She was born April 26, 1950, in Richmond, Ind., to Carl Dwight McClain and Ruby K. McClain.
Connie and family moved to Alaska from Arizona in 1982 after falling in love with the place on a family vacation. Connie spent much of her life working at her chosen profession of full-charge bookkeeper. She treasured working with people and later in her career entered retail sales work while continuing her education, earning an associate’s of science degree in accounting from the University of Alaska.
Connie spent many years and hours working as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, both in Arizona and Alaska. She also gave her time as a coach and instructor with the Young American Bowling Alliance, Alaska Special Olympics, PTO and PTA. She also served on several other civic commissions.
“But of all things, she will be missed most as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and our best, best friend,” her family wrote.
Preceding her in death was her father, Carl McClain; and a half-sister, Nancy McClain.
Connie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Thomas; sons, Matthew of Seattle and Mark of Wasilla; her only grandchild, Haidin of Wasilla: her daughter-in-law, Angie; her loving mother, Ruby K. McClain-Burdine of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
