Palmer yet to decide on Metropolitan Planning Organization

The July 28 edition of the Frontiersman reported that Palmer’s city council has approved a Metropolitan Planning Organization, or MPO. This is incorrect. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough and the city of Wasilla have approved the MPO, but Palmer has delayed its decision until the Monday, Aug. 7 city council meeting.

MPOs are formed to allow decisions on state and federal transportation projects to be made by local organizations. There are two MPOS that have formed in Alaska, one in Anchorage and one in Fairbanks. The Mat-Su MPO, if approved by its municipalities and Gov. Mike Dunleavy, would be the state’s third.
