Our precious Cyndi passed away in the comfort of her own home on Friday, January 5, 2024 after a long and ferocious fight with cancer. Cyndi was born on August 27, 1967 in Blytheville, AR to Cheryl Douglas and Charles Young. When Cyndi was a young child, her family moved to Maple Valley, Washington, where she resided until after college.
Cyndi graduated from Tahoma High School in 1985. Shortly after graduation, Cyndi pursued a passion to be a florist by receiving a diploma in floral from Washington Technical College in 1987. Cyndi ventured to the small town of Houston, Alaska in 1993. This was the beginning of building the most important thing of her life: her family.
Cyndi had two children who were the sparkle in her eye: Shelby (1993), Gracie (2005). Cyndi met the love of her life, Leon Jernstrom, and they were married on January 15, 2007. During this time, Cyndi found employment at Steve’s Food Boy, starting as a florist in their floral nook from 2003-2014. Cyndi became a beacon of hope to all those who came through Steve’s Food boy (Three Bears of Alaska). Cyndi had a strong community involvement through the Big Lake Lions’ Club, and volunteering at Midnight Sun Charter School and Big Lake Elementary, by teaching students the importance of being creative through her art.
Cyndi is survived by her parents, Cheryl & Gary Douglas and Charles & Kareen Young; her brother, Craig Young; her beautiful daughters – Shelby Moore (Logan) and Gracie Jernstrom; and her grandchildren – Ellawyn Moore and Sylas Brown. Cyndi was also survived by her chosen children: Jaime Estes, and Jesse, Aleks, & Kinzley Estes. Along with countless nieces and nephews. Cyndi was proceeded in death by her husband, Leon Jernstrom (2013), and her beloved Grandma Phyllis (2015).
Cyndi loved everyone deeply and spoke from the heart often. No matter what you were going through, Cyndi knew exactly what to say. Cyndi always believed that when she would depart this world, she would depart into a magical land, as a fairy. Until we met her again, keep your eyes open for her between sleep and awake, the place where you still remember dreaming -you will hear her say:
That’s where I’ll always love you. That’s where I’ll be waiting for you. - Cyndi
Celebration of Life will be held January 21st 2024 @ 4:00pm, Big Lake Lions Rec Center.
