PALMER — The UAA Student Spanish Club, La Tertulia, has planned a Dominican Music and Dance Festival from 4 to 7:30 p.m., June 1 on the grounds of Mat-Su College and at the University of Alaska Anchorage campus June 2.
The first-time event will follow the Machetanz Arts Festival on Saturday at the college.
The festival starts with a one-hour bachata dance class taught by Alaska Dance Promotions professional instructors. No experience is necessary and no partner is required.
World-renowned Dominican artist Joan Soriano and his band will play a two-hour concert featuring Dominican percussion instruments like the tambora, the guira and the bongo at 5 p.m. outside the atrium.
During intermission, Dominican folkloric dancer Altagracia Guillen and the Alaska Dance Promotions’ semi-pro team will perform Latin dance routines.
Security will be provided for this all ages event at this family friendly, alcohol- and drug-free event. Picnics are welcome.
