Valley Performing Arts performances of “Twelve Angry Jurors” ends Feb. 26 at the Fred and Sarah Machetanz Theater in Wasilla. This tense drama depicts a jury forced by a single dissenting voice into extensive deliberation to decide the fate of a young man accused of fatally murdering his father.
“He doesn’t stand a chance,” mutters the bailiff as the jurors are escorted into a bleak room for their deliberation.
It appears to 11 of them that it is an open-an-shut case, until one man begins questioning the “facts” and suggesting there may indeed be reasonable doubt that would require a “not guilty” verdict.
Originally “Twelve Angry Men,” Reginal Rose wrote the work in 1954 as a televised play, which was adapted for the stage in 1955 and as a movie in 1957 staring Henry Fonda. The film was produced again in 1990 and starred Jack Lemmon and George C. Scott.
VPA welcomes Michael Sheehan and a host of veteran and new actors to this production. The show offers fantastic drama for high-school aged youth and adults, but is not suitable for younger children.
Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for youth and seniors and $17 for adults. To purchase tickets, call Valley Performing Arts at 373-0195, or visit online at valleyperformingarts.org.
Tickets also are on sale now for “The Wizard of Oz” which plays March 23 to April 29.
