Drug collection event in Wasilla Saturday

WASILLA — Wasilla Police Department officers will be in the parking lot of the Wasilla Fred Meyer store from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 27 to collect and properly dispose of unwanted medications during a Drug Collection Day event.

National Drug Collection Day promotes safe collection and disposal of unwanted or expired prescription medication. Proper disposal reduces the chance of discarded drugs entering water bodies and causing harm to public health and the environment.

Alaskans have collected nearly 10,000 pounds of drugs since the biannual event began in 2010.
