Eagle River Management Area permit and closure areas

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) reminds hunters a permit is required before hunting grouse, ptarmigan, and snowshoe hare in Unit 14C within the Eagle River Management Area (ERMA). This permit, designated as WU004, can be obtained in-person at the Anchorage or Palmer ADF&G offices, or online beginning August 4th, 2022. Basic hunter education is required to obtain this permit for all hunters; additionally, crossbow hunters born on or after January 1, 1986 must have successfully completed a crossbow education course prior to hunting along with the basic hunter education requirement.

Hunters may only hunt in Zone 1 or Zone 2 of the ERMA. Zone 1 is the Eagle River drainage south of the south bank of the main channel, upstream from the South Fork drainage, and downstream from Icicle Creek. Zone 2 is the Eagle River drainage upstream from Icicle Creek drainage (See attached map). All other areas of the ERMA are closed to the taking of grouse, ptarmigan, and snowshoe hare including the South Fork Eagle River drainage, mainstem Eagle River east to Icicle Creek including Meadow Creek and Mount Baldy.

Successful and unsuccessful hunters will need to report in person at any ADF&G office or by mail to the Anchorage office, within 15 days of the close of the season. Permittees who did not hunt can report online, in person, or by mail.
