MAT-SU — Alaska Center for Appropriate Technology will host a workshop titled “Net Zero Energy Building for Cold Climates” from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Feb. 9 at Mat-Su College in Room 202 in the Fred and Sara Machetanz Building. Cost is $20 for ACAT members and $40 for non-ACAT members.
Net Zero Energy Buildings are homes and businesses that generate as much energy as they use. The path to Net Zero Energy starts with building techniques that reduce the amount of energy a home or business uses. This workshop will provide an overview of Net Zero Energy building nationwide as well as case studies from within Alaska of retrofit and new construction using Net Zero Energy techniques.
Presenters are Sonja Winkelmann, executive director of the Net Zero Energy Home Coalition (via webinar); Tom Marsik, assistant professor of Sustainable Energy at UAF Bristol Bay; and Harvey Bowers, Net Zero Energy project leader of Alaska Center for Appropriate Technology.
