Enter by July 31 to ‘Sing on Stage Live with Foreigner’

PALMER — Think you have the vocal chops to punch out Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is” on stage with the band at this year’s Alaska State Fair?

Now you can win the chance to test your pipes on stage in the “Sing on Stage Live with Foreigner” contest.

A total of 25 young singers will be selected to perform one of Foreigner’s signature songs, “I Want to Know What Love Is,” live on stage with the band on Aug. 22 at the fair. The public will choose 10 finalists by voting online, and the fair and choir director will select the remaining 15 performers.

The contest is open to Alaska high school students — including those entering ninth grade in fall 2013, and seniors who graduate in 2013 are eligible. Students from anywhere in Alaska can enter, but winners must pay for their own travel and/or lodging expenses.

To enter, complete the online entry form and upload a video of themselves singing the audition song, “America the Beautiful.” Entries are accepted through July 31. Complete contest details and rules are available online at alaskastatefair.org.

From May 15 to Aug. 1, the public can vote online for their favorite singer, and the 10 most popular singers will get a spot in the chorus. The fair and chorus director will select the remaining 15 singers.

All 25 winners will be announced Aug. 2. They’ll take the stage with Foreigner at the Kendall Toyota of Anchorage Borealis Theatre at the Fair on Aug. 22 to perform the band’s classic hit, “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
