Fiber arts theme for Palmer Art Walk

PALMER — This month's Palmer Art Walk from 3 to 7 p.m., Nov. 9 is a celebration of fiber arts. This is the final art walk of 2013.

Arkose Brewery —Arkose will offer its popular Beer Meets Canvas event from 2 to 4 p.m. For $30, you get one pint and all the art supplies you will need to create your own masterpiece. This event is open only to those age 21 or older and pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 746-2337.

The Gallery —A pre-Christmas sale runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Buy any unframed Machetanz print for 35 percent off and all Thomas Kinkade art is 40 percent off. All art is a minimum of 20 percent off. The fun includes refreshments and a prize drawing. Note, artist Gail Niebrugge will be at The Gallery from 2 to 6 p.m., Dec. 14 to meet her fans. Refreshments and a free drawing are included.

5 Garden Gate — See demonstrations by knitted and crochet lace expert Patty Rosnel, who never passes up a lace retreat if she can help it. Also, learn about Frontiersman managing editor Heather Resz’s secret yarn habit. Learn to crochet a hat to donate to Mat-Su Special Santafor adults and kids.

4 Non-Essentials — This delightful and yummy store promises to have something special up its sleeve this Art Walk.

3 Fireside Books — Meet authors Kris Farmen, Martha Amore and Buffy McKay, whose work appears in the new collection "Weathered Edge," beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Fireside Books.

6 Palmer Depot (Valley Quilters Guild ) — This organization’s members will be creating beautiful quilts in the Palmer Depot during the Art Walk. Stop in to see quilters in action. There will be informational materials about the guild and items for sale, large and small. Find out who they are and how they give back to the community. 2 Vagabond Blues — This local coffee shop will feature the artwork of Frederick Norssell. Don't forget to stop by, grab a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate and browse through the art exhibit while on your travels through the Art Walk.

2 Side Kicks Gift Store — This lovely shop will feature multiple sales throughout the store and, as always, feature the work of local artists and crafters.

1 Alaskans Artisans and Crafters — This artistic and eclectic group will be set up in the Turkey Red banquet room and will offer visitors an opportunity to sample a wide selection of arts and crafts they can purchase as well. Alaska Spirit Crafts will have fur hats and gloves. By The Spirit will have photography, custom fabric and jewelry. Far North Creations will have goat milk soaps and lotions. There will also be jewelry and wooden toys by Tami Grande. Not to mention Borealis Sea Glass, Younique and 31 will be present selling their artistic crafts.

1 Radio Free Palmer 89.5 FM — This favorite local radio station will feature the artwork from students from the Art Department at Mat-Su College. Be sure to stop on by and see what our up-and-coming artists are creating.

1 Shane Lamb Studio — This friendly gallery will feature the work of Nancy Angelini Crawford. Nancy Angelini Crawford grew up in New England. As a child, a love of the ocean, harbor towns and crayons were her favorite things. As a young adult, she worked as a glassblower in Florida where she met her husband to be. In 1981, Nancy moved to Alaska and started a family while living the frontier dream. Her art was put on hold while they lived off the land, built a cabin and started a family. Now Nancy has returned to her art. Using watercolor, pastel and oil, her paintings convey Alaska's scenery, her past by the sea as well as her travels. 1 Healing Path Therapeutic Massage — Healing Path will have two therapists to provide chair and foot massage at the discounted rate of $1 per minute at the Downtown Palmer Plaza from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. You might enjoy a foot massage with cream to sooth those throbbing feet or a neck and shoulder massage to relieve pain and discomfort from fall yard duty.

The featured artist this month will be Linda Berget, a professional doll maker and fiber artist. Her works include one-of-a-kind artistic dolls, Santa, whimsical and Alaskan dolls. Chickadee's — This little house of treasures has recently restocked its shelves with more unique items and will feature some new local honey and soaps. As a bonus this month, Chickadee's will host horse-drawn wagon rides provided by a veteran team competing in this year's Iron Dog. Wagon rides will be given from 3 to 6 p.m., for a small donation, so be sure to stop on by and help this group in its fundraising efforts.

8 Palmer Museum of History and Art — This month, the museum is celebrating Day of the Dead with its temporary exhibit “Recuerdas.” Enjoy an artist’s reception with food catered by Jalapeños Mexican Restaurant and decorate your own free sugar skulls. Fiber artist Sandra Cook also will share her vast knowledge of how to spin wool and use it to create your own work of art. She will also have samples of her work available for purchase.
