First COVID-19 case reported in Wasilla; state mandates extended

Alaska Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Zink reported 10 new positive COVID-19 cases in Alaska, including one in Wasilla, and Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Commissioner Adam Crum announced the extension of a pair of state mandates during a press conference Wednesday in Anchorage.

The positive COVID-19 case in Wasilla is the first reported in Wasilla. There are now four total cases in the Mat-Su Borough. The other three are in Palmer.

Crum announced that a pair of state mandates have been extended. The first mandate includes the order that all public libraries and museums will remain closed. The second mandate states that all restaurants, bars and breweries will remain closed to in-house dining. Both mandates have been extended until further notice.

In addition to the positive case in Wasilla, there are three new COVID-19 cases in Fairbanks, two in Anchorage, one in North Pole, one in Juneau and one in Ketchikan. The Wasilla case is under investigation. There are now 143 total cases in Alaska, as of Wednesday.
