PALMER — In Palmer the business community works together for everyone success. Forget Me Not Fibers got a foot in the door thanks to Meggie Aube letting them space in her studio. When Aube needed the space and Forget Me Not had grown, Denise Smith Statz offered a leg up and space in her shop until Becky Oviatt and Lynx Mullen could close on their new space.

Now Forget Me Not Fibers is in its new home at 1085 S. Cobb St. across from the Moose Lodge and right behind Madd Matters in downtown Palmer.

Forget Me Not will be a retail space, a community gathering place, and a place for education in the fiber arts.

As a retail establishment Forget Me Not offers a wide selection of fiber, wool, silk, alpaca, bamboo and even bear is available.

As a community gathering spot, Oviatt says she will have a small tearoom offering the finest teas from NonEssentials and a place where folks can come knit, or spin, or just hang out. Ravelry groups such a Fiber Hounds have already found the store and others around the Valley are sure to find this a home.

For training and learning, Oviatt has an adventurous schedule with fairly renowned artisans such as Lisa Dewyngaert, Marilynn Methryn and Kathy Meggitt offering classes in classic fiber art from spinning and knitting to weaving and crochet. Classes this summer will include the new fiber painting, in which fiber is actually applied like paint for a wonderful, interesting product.

The shop will have its grand opening sponsored by the Palmer Chamber of Commerce on May 9 but an earlier open house is planned to coincide with Palmer’s “Who Let the Girls Out” celebration April 25. Forget Me Not will host a Pampered Chef party at 6:15 p.m., April 29. Everyone is welcome.

One thing that will really differentiate Forget Me Not Fibers is its dye garden. Local horticulturalist Peggy Hunt is working with Becky and Lynx to establish a garden of plants historically used for natural wool dyes.

Come fall, the plants will be harvested and classes in preparing your fiber for dye and then dying fiber will be given.

The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and extended hours are planned for the summer.
