The tiny mountain town of Talkeetna is a stop on acclaimed Outside songwriter Fred Eaglesmith’s Traveling Steam Show, which rolls into town Sunday.
Eaglesmith’s music is often described with a string of influrences — Americana, blues, bluegrass, country, folk and rock.
In his time, he’s released 19 albums, traveled thousands of miles and written hundreds of songs. Some have even been covered by such big names as Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and Miranda Lambert, as well as more independent acts like The Cowboy Junkies, Kasey Chambers and Dar Williams.
He’s also got a pretty impressive biography — raised on a farm in Ontario, he set out on his own at age 15 singing in hobo camps and for fellow forest firefighters before he ever got booked in small clubs and coffee shops.
The Talkeetna show is booked for the Sheldon Arts Hangar. Another acclaimed songwriter, Gordie Tentrees, is the opening show.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $24 with a $2 discount for Denali Arts Council members. For more information, visit denaliartscouncil.org
