The community is invited to the Carrs in Palmer from 5 to 7 p.m., Jan. 17 to support a fundraiser for this year’s Scott Firefighter Stairclimb at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle March 9 to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Valley firefighters will have stair climbers set up and will be in full gear to show people what they do. Among the climbers in the annual event is a team from Central Mat-Su Fire Department, which is collecting pledges online at bit.ly/1gStBm6.
Team members are: Jacob Boothby, Robin Ace, Nathan Durbin, Brandon Goentzel, Brandon Korin, Rudolph Kula, Kyle Murdock, David Reilly, Jaime Rodriguez, Brian Shea, Cassandra Shoemaker and Sarah Smith.
So far, the team has raised $3,200 in pledges.
In the annual fundraiser, team members run up 69 flights of stairs at the Columbia Center — that’s 1,311 steps and 788 feet of vertical elevation gain — in full fire and SCBA gear.
