MAT-SU — An effort is underway to help a 3-year-old Mat-Su girl as she receives treatment for a rare cancerous brain tumor.

Remedy DeVilbiss, daughter of Josh Carte and Heather DeVilbiss and granddaughter of Mat-Su Borough mayor Larry DeVilbiss, is at Seattle Children’s Hospital receiving treatments for pineoblastoma, a cancer that develops in the brain and mainly affects children.

Frontiersman readers were introduced to Remedy in the newspaper’s Sept. 27 edition and online at Frontiersman.com (http://tinyurl.com/ln5vs35). On Oct. 1, her story was part of a feature aired on NBC television’s “Today Show.”

To help with medical expenses associated with the girl’s car, the family is hosting Remedy’s Family Fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m., Dec. 7 at Church of the Nazarene, 1951 N. Hemmer Road, Palmer. Activities include a silent auction, cake walk, harvest stews with fresh homemade breads, ice cream bar, live music and free Alaska Soda Jerk refreshments.

Suggested donation is $10 at the door and all proceeds will benefit the family.

For more information or to make a silent auction or monetary donation, call Jen Bolinder at (907) 360-7116.
