The Alaska Department of Corrections announced on Monday morning that Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) inmate Douglas W. Artemie died at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center on Sept. 4, 2018 at 5:27 p.m.
In a press release, the department said that Artemie, 48, has been housed at GCCC since Aug. 19, 2018. He was serving a sentence for first-degree sexual assault, first-degree assault, a probation violation, and fourth-degree assault.
Artemie was transported to the Mat-Su hospital on Sept. 4 at 9:44 a.m. Foul play is not believed to be a factor in his death, and his next of kin have been notified, state officials said.
