Gov. Mike Dunleavy has named deputy revenue commissioner Brian Fechter as the acting commissioner of the Department of Revenue, effective Tuesday.

The governor’s appointment was announced Monday by email.

Fechter will replace Deven Mitchell, who is scheduled to become executive director of the Alaska Permanent Fund the same day. Mitchell was himself an interim pick, having been named to fill in for Commissioner Lucinda Mahoney, who retired Sept. 9.

Fechter has worked for the state in a variety of roles since 2013, when he moved to Alaska from Florida. In addition to his experience with the Department of Revenue, Fechter has worked in the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Health and Social Services, which has since been split into two agencies.

Unless Dunleavy appoints another revenue commissioner, Fechter will face confirmation hearings in the upcoming session of the Alaska Legislature.
