Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Dunleavy took on a task that no other governor would touch because of the consequences he is now experiencing. UAA needs more money? No problem- give it to them. Ferry system losing money? State will pay the difference. Pioneer Home? How much? Just write a check. Native villages? Medicaid? Medicare? Teachers contracts, DOT, Public Safety, Education, and the list goes on and on.
Let’s not cut Pioneer Homes-my parents live there. Or education, my classroom already has 30 students. Medicaid- who’s going to pay my doctor? Let’s cut the ferry system-we never ride it. But that’s not how society works. The state has limited resources and the governor does the best he can to share those resources. Eliminating the permanent fund and adding an income tax will never feed the insatiable appetite for funding that our previous governors and legislators have created. State administration offices and employees have increased and services have decreased. The answer? Impeach the governor. Now we all get what we want today. I remember the thousands of homes that people walked away from in the mid-eighties and hundreds of small businesses closed their doors. You better hope Governor Dunleavy serves this term and another four years or Alaska will look like Venezuela and the Alcan will look like Tobacco Road again.
