JUNEAU — Nominations are due today for the 2012 Governor’s Awards for the Arts. Any individual, organization or institution that has made a significant contribution to the arts in Alaska is eligible, with the exception of current Alaska State Council for the Arts members, staff or prior award recipients.
Categories for the 2012 Arts Awards include:
• Arts Education (individual or organization): Dedication to providing Alaska young people with quality arts education through artist residencies, arts curriculum or arts experiences; and advocacy, commitment to arts education, statewide or broad community impact and recognition of peers.
• Individual Artist: Artistic leadership, distinction and merit is recognized for artistic contribution to the state or community through previous honors and awards, reviews or articles and longevity of impact to state or community.
• Arts Organization: For visionary and innovative leadership, statewide impact and collaboration with other organizations, stability and longevity of the organization.
• Native Arts (individual or organization): Has made an outstanding effort to perpetuate and promote Alaska’s Native arts and cultural heritage or has made a significant artistic contribution that advances the culture.
