Between deployments and temporary duty assignments, frequent moves and special needs, military families are often under more stress than others, which can make financial stability even more essential.
On Nov. 1, the Military and Family Readiness Center will host a Heroes at Home financial event at the Arctic Warrior Events Center, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event is geared to be not only be educational but also entertaining and engaging, said Pamela Tucker, 673d Force Support Squadron, MFRC director.
Ellie Kay, the keynote speaker, will provide financial education that can help families pay off debt, build up savings, and learn ways to get more for less.
Kay is a best-selling author and corporate educator and spokesperson.
Married for nearly 25 years to a former fighter pilot and raising seven children, Kay knows firsthand what it’s like to be in a military family, Tucker said.
Along with Kay are several other speakers who will cover a variety of finance topics, investments, savings, and how to manage your credit wisely.
“They’re professionals in their field and they’re experienced speakers,” Tucker said. “So often we go through PowerPoint slides to learn these important financial steps,
but this is a chance to hear from experts who can keep people entertained – and help them learn at the same time.”
Several prizes will be awarded to audience members during the event and there will be a meet-and-greet and book signing after the presentation.
“This is a great opportunity that can help prevent many financial issues down the line and all it takes is
a two-hour commitment,” said Tucker.
