MAT-SU — Hope Community Resources Inc. received $10,000 from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority during its current grant cycle, which gave $98,916 in small project grants to 11 projects around the state.
Hope Community Resources will use the grant to purchase woodworking equipment for Hope’s Willow Ranch, where residents will make and sell picnic tables, flower boxes and other items. This will create potential income for Willow Ranch residents as well as for trust beneficiaries at Hope Studios, where beneficiary artists will create finished pieces of artwork.
Alaska Mental Health Trust grants fund a wide range of projects and programs that assist people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, chronic alcoholism and other substance related disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, and traumatic brain injury that results in permanent brain injury.
The trust annually budgets $250,000 for new and innovative small projects of $10,000 or less that are a direct benefit to trust beneficiaries. Grant applications are accepted three times a year, in March, July and November. The deadline for the next cycle of small project grants is July 1.
