Houston prepares for annual ‘Founders Day’ celebration

HOUSTON — Mark your calendars now to attend Founders Day Aug. 17.

Again this year, the annual celebration of Houston’s founding as a city is planned as a family fun time with a parade, games, live music and free hot dogs and hamburgers.

The band Element 42 will perform covers of music for all ages, and the event also includes the Sky Lantern Festival and a fireworks finale.

Donations to support the event are accepted. Send checks payable to the city of Houston (tax ID 92-0049711), with a memo “Houston Founders’ Day,” to P.O. Box 940027, Houston, AK 99694, call Elsie O’Bryan at 355-6111, or email bearpaw@mtaonline.net for donation pick up.
