Humpy's bankruptcy trial to continue next Friday

After a full day of testimony, with at least four more witnesses to be called, the Humpy's bankruptcy hearing halted at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with Federal Bankruptcy Judge Gary Spraker calling for parties to reconvene at 9 a.m. on Friday March 8.

Friday afternoon saw testimony from Bob Jurasek, majority owner of the Williwaw side of the operation, whose proposal for satisfying creditors is to give the shares of majority Humpy's owners James Maurer and Billy Opinsky to the Salamatof Native Corporation — the largest of all the creditors — in exchange for a $420,000 cash infusion.

Also testifying was Pete Burns, the former general manager at Humpy's, who would regain that position, and get a small share of ownership in the enterprise if the Jurasek Plan is chosen.

Counsel for the competing sides both told Spraker they would prefer a written judgment to an oral one, because of the magnitude of the case. Spraker said that would make it very unlikely that he could render a verdict by the end of the day March 8, and said a ruling may not come until March 29 or April 5.
