Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Jocelyn Ann (Gladson) Andrus, 83, passed away Oct. 16, 2016 at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska.
Jocelyn was born in Yakima Washington Oct. 10, 1933. She graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts (1955) and a Teaching Degree from the University of Washington (1966). Jocelyn was previously married to Gordon Gladson from 1955 to 1991. Until she passed, she was married to Alan Andrus.
Jocelyn became a resident of Palmer, Alaska in August of 1968. She was a music teacher and a classroom teacher at Swanson Elementary and Palmer Jr. Middle from 1968 to 1990. Jocelyn retired from Swanson Elementary in 1990. She was a member of the Elks Club, a Catholic Church pianist for over 30 years and a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. Jocelyn was a pianist for numerous community functions; community choirs, weddings and funerals. She accompanied the Palmer High School Choir on their Europe Tour in 1973.
“She was loved greatly by her husband Al for 24 years. Hundreds of people have been blessed by her gift of music and beautiful loving Spirit.”
Jocelyn is survived by her husband, Alan Andrus, children, Laura (Gladson) Wick, Kelly (Gladson) Best, Karen (Gladson) David, Jackie (Andrus) Kotter, and David Andrus; grandchildren, Kristila Gardner, Karissa Rollman, Jaime Jessee, Tyler David, Micaeh Tice, Keenan Best, Alex Koch, Kayla Andrus and Cooper Andrus; nieces and nephew; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Please join family and friends for a pot luck and Celebration of Life Service, November 3, 2016 from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Palmer Elks Lodge at Finger Lake. Jocelyn’s ashes will be scattered in Hatchers Pass.
