Long time Alaska resident, John Spencer, age 98, went home to be with his Savior on March 22nd of 2024. Born in 1925, John was the youngest of four children born to William and Mary Spencer of Stowell, Texas.

After graduating from the local High School at age 16, he went on to receive his teaching certificate from Southwest Teachers College, and his Bachelor's Degree from SMU. John then taught five years at Camp Woodland Springs in Texas, a camp for troubled and underprivileged boys.

He ventured north to the Territory of Alaska in the late 1940's and after receiving his Master's in Education from UAF he taught at schools in Homer, Pedro Bay, Aniak, and Chignik before moving to Wasilla in 1967 and teaching sixth grade until his retirement.

John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Faith Spencer, son Bill (Robin) Spencer, daughter Mary (Tom) McCain, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, April 27th, at Skokomish Community Church in Shelton, WA.
