Joseph Alan Kopy
Joseph Alan Kopy, age 39, passed away December 2, 2020 at his home in Anchorage.
Joey was born July 7, 1981 to Stephen and Dianne (Orloff) Kopy. He grew up in Anchorage where he graduated from East High and attended ACE. Joey enjoyed the structure and activities of student life. He voluntarily would come back years after to help teachers with end of year clean up.
Joey received services through Hope Community Services. He was autistic, had epilepsy, and lived as an ‘adult-child’-pure of heart. Those attributes never hindered his adventures. He would walk from Anchorage to the Valley receiving occasional rides from folks who knew him. You would think for as much walking as he did, he would be a slim Jim, but such is how it was. Joey loved airplanes all his life and attended air shows in Alaska, Texas and Nevada. He was fearless and determined. He had that savant ability to know what day of the week your birthday would fall in years ahead. He remembered every birth, death and major happening in our family and beyond. Dates of past years’ first snows, big windstorms and earthquakes were all cataloged and easily retrieved in Joey’s head.
Joey was preceded in death by his mother, Dianne Marie (Orloff) Kopy. He is survived by his father, Stephen Kopy, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held in Spring, 2021 at Anchorage Memorial Cemetery in downtown Anchorage.
