To the Editor:
The appointment of Supreme Court Justices has become a veiled game where Senators pick based on party allegiance, not impartiality. So far the U.S. Senate's Republican leader has said he'll try to appoint nominee Brett Kavanaugh before we get to hear whether this man, born to privilege, tried to rape a young woman. Senator Dan Sullivan has wrongly labeled Kavanaugh an "inspired choice."
Let's admit the truth. Senator Sullivan and Senate extremists refused to allow a Senate Floor vote on pre-Trump nominee, Judge Garland, because Garland would have been the deciding vote to overturn the controversial 5-4 ruling in Citizens United. That ruling gave corporations the right to buy our elections with unlimited campaign spending. They blocked Garland to get a Justice who'd take away a woman's right to choose. Kavanaugh was nominated so the powerful could continue to drown out your voice in elections with their money, and to whittle away at a woman's right to choose. Senator Sullivan has publicly sided with Kavanaugh on both legal issues.
Call our Senators and tell them you want a justice who'll reinstate Alaska's ban on corporate election spending, and who'll respect a woman's right to choose. And tell them you want fair hearings on whether this nominee tried to rape a young woman - before he gets appointed.
