PALMER — What’s filled with food, local entertainment and lots of family fun?
You guessed it — Colony Days is right around the corner June 7 to 9 at locations around Palmer.
Along with the traditional Colony Days parade and the season-opening game for Mat Su Miners baseball, there are many fun new things to do for the whole family at this year’s celebration.
The fun starts June 7 with homemade ice cream demonstrations from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Palmer Visitors Center.
June 8 highlights include the BYOB Slow Bike Race and other games especially for adults at 12:30 p.m.
Another new addition to the weekend’s festivities is the Bill Mitchell 5-kilometer Fun Run at the MTA Events Center at 11 a.m., June 8. After the race, Midnight Sun Yoga will offer a yoga class.
New this year, Colony Days will introduce an attraction known as Tent City Market, which still needs many volunteers and donations to support. This is an effort to educate people about Colony Days and to raise funds for Colony House Museum and the Palmer Historical Society.
Volunteers are needed to portray members of a Colonist family and be available for questions on what life was like for them during that time period.
Also needed are painted signs for the tent city and vintage clothing and items that can be sold in the market. Spaces also are available for local vendors and people wishing to sell their baked goods or arts. Instead of vendor fees, a small donation to the Historical Society is requested.
