PALMER — The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report, “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety” honored Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and the Providence Alaska Medical Center among the “2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.”
Only 1,224 — or approximately one-third — of eligible United States hospitals achieved this distinction for attaining and sustaining excellence in certain clinical measures. Mat-Su Regional was one of 712 hospitals to achieve the status for two consecutive years.
“This honor reaffirms the confidence and trust our community has in our ability to provide exceptional care to every patient,” said John Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. “Following evidence-based clinical protocols is not an easy goal to reach, but one that has been achieved through the dedication of our physicians, nurses and other caregivers. We are proud to have earned this distinction that places us among the nation’s top hospitals.”
Mat-Su Regional was recognized for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for pneumonia, heart attack and surgical care.
“We are proud of our physicians and clinical staff for their hard work to provide safe, effective care across the hospital,” said John Naylor, M.D., Chief of Staff, Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. “The Joint Commission’s recognition of our efforts is very gratifying for our entire team.”
To be a 2013 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2013 accountability measure data, including:
• Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures;
• Achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and
• Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.
“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care,” said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and CEO, The Joint Commission. “I commend the efforts of Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions.”
