PALMER — The Matanuska-Susitna Orchestra is putting on a fundraising concert for the Friends of the Palmer Public Library Sunday, Feb. 11.
The Palmer Library was shut down after a partial roof collapse occurred in February of 2023, and a temporary library was opened off Arctic Avenue shortly afterwards.
There is no admission charge for the concert, but donations are highly encouraged. All proceeds will go towards Friends of the Palmer Public Library which is currently raising funds to help pay for the construction of a new facility.
During a previous interview, Wolf Architecture architect Laura Read said the total time the construction project will take is ultimately tied to funding and other factors.
"It needs to happen. We need a new library," Read told the Frontiersman.
All the Matanuska-Susitna Orchestra concerts serve as fundraisers for local groups and causes. Their tagline is: "making music make a difference."
"Our whole point is to be a community orchestra," Matanuska-Susitna Orchestra Orchestra conductor Kate Patterson told the Frontiersman.
The Sunday concert starts at 3 p.m. at the Palmer Train Depot.
The Matanuska-Susitna Orchestra currently has about 20 members, and they’re always seeking local musicians interested in joining their group.
