Mental health board to meet in Talkeetna Oct. 8-10

TALKEETNA — The Alaska Mental Health Board and Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse will meet Oct. 8 to 10 in Talkeetna at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar.

The meetings will offer presentations on the topic of mental health and substance abuse issues in the region and statewide, and opportunities for public comment.

The public comment portion of the meeting is from 5 to 6 p.m., Monday. To call in for public comment, dial (800) 315-6338 code: 8920#.

A public reception begins at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar, featuring live music and speakers.

The Talkeetna meeting will offer members of the public an opportunity to learn about the boards, ask questions and offer comments on issues related to mental health and /or alcoholism and drug abuse.

The three-day meeting will include the following presentations/reports:

• Preview of updated Underage Drinking Prevention Plan Supportive Employment Presentation Advocacy planning for upcoming legislative session Reports from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, Department of Corrections, and Division of Behavioral Health

• Report from Alaska Psychiatric Institute Reports from the Alaska Addictions Professionals Association and the Alaska Behavioral Health Association Reports from Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration on current grants, initiatives, and priorities

• Report from the Alcohol Beverage Control Board
