Michael Eugene Wellman Jr.
Michael Eugene Wellman Jr., (Mike Jr.) 40 years old, a lifelong Alaskan unfortunately passed away on Friday October 28th, 2022 at Anchorage Providence Hospital following an eight-day courageous battle from an unexpected and severe brain aneurysm that occurred early morning on Thursday October 20th, 2022. Following several days of stability and encouraging slight improvements his condition took a turn for the worse early morning Wednesday October 26th. A very heartbreaking decision was made by his father Michael E. Wellman Sr. (Mike Sr.) to remove his son from life support on Friday October 28th at approximately 8 pm. Michael died very peacefully with numerous family members at his side without ever regaining consciousness from being in a coma from the very onset of his injury. Born in Palmer Alaska June 11, 1982 at the old Palmer Valley Hospital, Michael Jr. is survived by his parents in Wasilla Alaska, father Michael E. Wellman Sr. and his stepmother of almost 26 years Jacquelyn L. Wellman, who on a daily basis was always a positive influence and a very instrumental person throughout his life, his mother Sara Barron who he maintained a close relationship with resides in Washington State, his older sister Lisa R. Wellman with whom he had a close and special bond with, nieces Michaela R. Wellman and Ally J. Wellman, all of Wasilla Alaska. A large extended family of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins spread throughout various lower 48 States, with a very special bond with his Uncle Chuck Wellman and Aunt Anna Marie Wellman of Kirkland, Washington. Although his life was cut short at just 40 years old, many would attest to the fact that his life was lived to the fullest with very few dull moments and many achievements. Michael proudly served his country in the Army from 2002 through 2004, he maintained a 3.55 GPA in college and after a rigorous 8 years of going back to school as an adult he was very much looking forward to his college graduation this coming May from UAA, which would have presented him with his Bachelor Degree in Construction Management, Computer Science, Computer Programming and proficiency in CADD Software, he was extremely proud of this upcoming accomplishment. Michael Jr. was also on the College Deans list due to his GPA, and was accepted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, one of the oldest and most prestigious Honor Societies recognized around the world. Michael Jr. started working for the family’s Steel Erection construction business, Statewide Steel, Inc. in 1998 at a young age up until his death. He was a certified welder, a certified boom truck operator and worked his way up to a Senior Estimating position within the company, being extremely knowledgeable and proficient in blueprint reading, material estimating and project coordination efforts. Michael was also the founder and owner of Vertical Superstructures, Inc., a steel supply company he established to compliment his positioning and experience level with Statewide Steel, Inc. Michael E. Wellman Jr. was an only son within the family and will be so sadly missed on a daily basis in every way possible by his entire family, especially his Dad, Mike Sr. Needless to say, the entire family is in shock and deep sadness over such a sudden and unexpected death. Taken upon himself as an adult in 2009 to be baptized into his Christian Faith, may our beloved Son, Brother and Uncle REST IN PEACE with the Lord. Unfortunately, Jr. was taken from us early, but will never be forgotten. Burial Services were held for Michael E. Wellman Jr. on Friday, November 4th, 2022 at 2pm at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery, 440 E. Klatt Road Anchorage Alaska in one of the Wellman Family burial plots, along with his grandparents. A very special appreciation is extended from the entire Wellman family to Pastor Gregg Clark for a wonderful job presiding over and conducting the services.
