Miles 4 Meals event is July 14

WASILLA — More than 200 people are set to participate in the Wasilla Area Seniors’ annual Miles 4 Meals Family Fun Run/Walk and Roll July 14.

Registration for the 5-kilometer event begins at 9 a.m. The race for walkers and rollers begins at 10:45 a.m., and runners start at 11 a.m.

Parking for the race is at Assembly of God Church located at the end of Riley Avenue. Park in the front or back parking lot.

The race starts in the senior center parking lot and finishes at the pavilion in the park on the WASI campus. A free barbecue lunch and awards ceremony follows at noon with an awards ceremony at 12:30 p.m.

The person who collects the largest amount in donations wins 25,000 Alaska Airlines Miles. Everyone who raises at least $100 in donations will be entered in a drawing for a second chance to win 25,000 air miles. The top racer in each category also will receive a prize. Must be present to win.

The annual fundraiser benefits the senior center’s meals program. Meals On Wheels is a vital service available five days a week for those unable to prepare their own meals. In 2011, the number of meals served increased by more than 55,000, and a 6 percent increase in delivered meals alone is anticipated in 2012.
