MAT-SU — Brian Porcello, a teacher at Shaw Elementary, won the second Mat-Su Education Association Mini-Grant of the year. Brian plans to use the money to build a small bridge over an intermittent creek behind the school.

Brian’s fourth- and fifth-grade students will be involved in all aspects of the project. In the process, students will learn math and science, get physical exercise and develop valuable teamwork skills.

When completed, the bridge will allow improved access to the trail system behind the school.

The Mat-Su Education Association represents more than 1,100 Mat-Su Borough School District employees, including teachers, special service providers, counselors, nurses and others.
