Miriam Huling

Miriam Huling passed from this life, with her daughter Kenda at her side, on 12/27/2023 at the age of 86. Being a lifelong Christian, she is now in heaven where she has no more pain. She was diagnosed with scleroderma at the age of 42 and also suffered heart problems, diabetes, and connective tissue diseases. In spite of her ailments, she was cheerful and laughed often, not wanting to burden others as she was wheelchair bound for the last six months of her life.

Miriam was a classically trained pianist who chose teaching instead of professional performance. She taught piano, flute, and guitar for 68 years. Many music teachers in Alaska have been her students. She also played piano at church and at many community events over seven decades. She enjoyed reading, being a 4H Club volunteer, eating chocolate, and watching Jeopardy.

Miriam was preceded in death by her brother Philip Nichols, father Arthur Nichols, mother Grace (Jacobs) Nichols, and sister Lois (Nichols) Berninger.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Kenneth Huling, children Kenda Huling, Lorita (Kevin) Shumway, Clinton (Judith) Huling, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sister Gloria (Gary) Hallberg, brother Roy Nichols, 5 sisters and brothers-in-law, 26 nieces and nephews and many family, neighbors, and friends. A service will be held at a later date.
