Heather Vest, we feel your pain. Four beers in 30 minutes, no doubt the entire party of three had four 'rounds' in that span of time and each of them would have had a high blood alcohol content. The adult male was probably a good tipper, also, to have received such good service at so crowded of a venue. It makes a reasonable person wonder how many staffers were on duty to service the 600.
The only good news in this is that for The Mugshot Saloon the purchases of this one group probably paid the entire fees for catering that event. All that is needed is $50 and a fax machine for a licensee to get their catering permit.
Your son disobeyed you and for that he may be charged with minor consuming. Who will be charged with serving him is the bigger question. Will it be the adult male, the staff, or perhaps no one? And what about minor on premises, will that charge go to the vendor, the event organizer, the owner of the premises, or nobody.
Once again the industry of alcohol has put dollars ahead of the responsibility of knowing who that alcohol goes to and it's effect on the society. No wonder the industry lobbies to take ABC Board out of the Dept. of Public Safety and put it under the Dept. of Commerce, the commerce is all most of them are concerned with.
As a licensee and a mother myself, I am very alarmed of this possible move of ABC Board. Our legislature should also be concerned, for they are tasked with providing for the public welfare of all Alaskans, not merely the lobbyists who wine and dine them on behalf of the industry.
As one person, all we can do is vote, and appeal to our legislatures for a meaningful change. Perhaps a move to the Dept. of Health and Social Services would put the emphasis on the people, rather than on the commerce.
