MTA issues record total in capital credit checks

WASILLA — Matanuska Telephone Association announced May 19 the co-op has set a record in the issuance of capital credit checks with a $6 million payment.

Credits — which can range from $10 to significantly more — are calculated based on a customer’s tenure with the company and the size of its contract. According to MTA, the largest check this year, more than $77,000, will go to the Mat-Su Borough School District.

MTA paired with the school district last year to implement a first-ever Coding Academy at Wasilla Middle School.

To date, MTA has issued nearly $41 million in capital credits to member-owners, according to the co-op.

“This is our way of thanking our members. By supporting MTA they are keeping member’s money here in our communities which strengthens the local economy,” said MTA CEO Michael Burke.
