One fatality has been confirmed as the result of this afternoon's structure fire on W 26th Ave. Fire Investigators remain on location to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Fire crews will also be monitoring the scene throughout the evening. The identity of the fire victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
Anchorage Fire Department units responded to the incident at 1:19 PM and work to control the fire with 17 responding units. The fire was called "under control" at 3:13 PM. Three units in the 16-unit apartment complex were damaged - two units were heavily damaged by fire. Residents displaced by the fire are being house in cooperation with the Red Cross and the building owners.
Please use caution in the area as fire crews will continue to work in the area for the evening. W 26th Ave. is now fully open between Minnesota and Spenard.
