MAT-SU — The Mat-Su Borough and USKH are kicking off design and route planning to extend Seldon Road from its terminus at Church Road to a new intersection with Pittman Road.

An open house is planned from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 3 in the gym at Meadow Lakes Elementary, 1741 N. Pittman Road.

Project presentations are scheduled for 6, 7 and 8 p.m., followed by question-and-answer sessions.

The goal is to create another east-west transportation corridor for local traffic from Wasilla to Meadow Lakes. The project is planned in two phases and includes a route alignment and four miles of new road to extend Seldon Road from Church Road to Pittman Road.

Design for Phase I — extending Seldon to the east end of Beverly Lake Road — has begun and construction is expected to begin next summer using existing road bond funds.

Phase II to route alignments through to Pittman Road has been finalized. This project will complete environmental due diligence and work with property owners, residents and the borough to analyze and define a final route.

Right of way acquisition and construction of Phase II will be completed at a later date, depending on the availability of funds.

Available project funding totals $7.5 million and is a combination of state grant funds and borough construction bonds. Construction of Phase I is estimated at $3 million to $4 million.
