PALMER — September is the month to celebrate performance art. For the first time, musicians will play live during the Palmer Art Walk on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m., Sept. 13.

The Palmer Chamber of Commerce is also playing a part in the festivities this month to promote its annual Palmer on Parade fundraiser. Each of the Art Walk locations will display the work of their featured artist and also one of the Parade art entries featuring Pioneer Peak. To win this month’s big prize sponsored by Thrifter’s Rock, attendees must identify each Palmer Chamber artist at 10 locations.

Thrifter’s Rock, 9201 Frontage Rd. (next to Sophia’s Cafe)

This month, the local thrift store will host the musical stylings of Shonti Elder, talented fiddler and traveling music producer. She will perform live throughout the Art Walk and may even bring along some of her favorite music buddies for an impromptu jam session.

Alaska Artisans & Crafters, 550 S. Alaska St.

This collective of artisans and crafters will have several items on display and available for purchase inside the Turkey Red banquet room.

Palmer Museum of History and Art, 723 S. Valley Way

The museum will feature its September earthworks/“found” art exhibit, “Matanuska Found.” This exhibit is a first for the museum because it is entirely outside. The museum partnered with the Valley Arts Alliance and other local artists to create three outdoor installations that explore the concept of found art in nature, using both organic and man-made materials. Light appetizers and a live performance by musical guest Melanie Trost will be provided.

Madd Matters, 1088 S. Colony Way

Madd Matters art store and gallery will be featuring their newest exhibit comprised of an ensemble of artists including Richard Estelle and Pat Garley. The store will host local musician, James Lasiter throughout the afternoon.

Fireside Books, 720 S. Alaska St.

Fireside Books is hosting authors David Stevenson and Andy Hall with stories about mountain adventures and disasters. Stevenson recently published a book entitled, “Letters From Chamonix,” and Hall also will sign copies of his new book, “Denali’s Howl.” Both authors will be at Fireside to discuss their books at 3 p.m. Fireside also will host musical guest Meggie Aube, who will perform at 1 p.m.

Valley Quilters Guild (Palmer Depot), 610 S. Valley Way

Valley Quilters are excited to take in their gardens and focus on generating colorful and soft creations indoors. Members of this group can be seen in action during the Walk sewing their projects and planning for the long, dark months ahead.

Healing Path Therapeutic Massage, 550 S. Alaska St.

Healing Path is featuring artist Judy Vars, who works in oils, beeswax, three dimensional mediums and found objects. She will have items on display and for sale, and walkers also will be able to see her working on a new creation during the event.

Healing Path will have two therapists to provide chair and foot massages at $1 per minute from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by to enter the drawing for two, 20-minute massages at 4 and 6 p.m. or call 715-8748 or 715-8725 to reserve a time.

Shane Lamb Gallery, 550 S. Alaska St.

Shane Lamb will feature ivory artist and boxing coach Robert “Utuqsiq” McCoy-Apangalook from Gambell. The Gallery will also be hosting acoustic guitarist Alexander Collamore during the Walk.

Cover Ups, 840 S. Colony Way

This eclectic store will host local artist Niki Pease, who specializes in wearable art.

B Bella, 642 S. Alaska St.

This unique hair salon and art gallery will host a surprise art exhibit this month and will have a special musical guest from 1 to 3 p.m.

Vagabond Blues, 642 S. Alaska St.

This local coffee house will feature the work of artist Eric Derylo, who will have a variety of paintings, stencil drawings and mixed media pieces on display.

Arkose Brewery, 650 E. Steel Loop

This month, Arkose Brewery will host its monthly event, Beer Meets Canvas, from 2 to 4 p.m., Sept. 13. For $30 you get one pint and all the art supplies you will need to create your own masterpiece. For more information, or to register, call 746-2337.
