US Marine Corporal Jackson Acree, a 2020 graduate of Palmer High School, will return home to perform with the US Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon during the opening ceremonies of the 51st Annual Iditarod.

Acree, a former Moose wrestling standout, went to recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California.

Upon graduation from Infantry Training with Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry- West at Camp Pendleton, California. Acree reported to Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., where he serves as a member of the Silent Drill Platoon which is part of the Battle Color Detachment.

The Northwestern Tour is part of Marine Barracks Washington’s preparation for the upcoming summer parade season at Marine Barracks Washington DC., the oldest post in the Marine Corps. The full detachment consisting of the “Commandant’s Own” Drum and Bugle Corps, the Silent Drill Platoon and the Marine Corps Color Guard perform for hundreds of thousands around the country in addition to the Evening Parades at the barracks.

“I applied to be in the BCD because the Silent Drill platoon has a very selective process to become part of and I wanted to challenge myself,” said Acree. “I am excited [to perform in his home state] because I am from a small town and I want to do what I can to give back to the community.”
