PALMER — The Mat-Su Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation annual celebration is planned from 1 to 4 p.m., Jan. 19 at the Mat-Su Senior Services, 1132 South Chugach St., Palmer.
The event is free to the public, and the theme this year is “The Mat-Su Community-Living the Dream Together.”
The Colony High School JROTC will present colors, and members from Palmer High and Middle School choirs will perform the National Anthem and the Alaska State Flag song.
For the first time this event will be held in the city of Palmer; keynote speakers Tamika Ledbetter, the Ramsey and Mildred Price duo, Adele Morgan will be performing a song from her latest album with local youth, The Mat-Su Central School Steel Drums and The Colony Calypso Steel Drum Society will perform. Sherrod Elementary School students, lead by Annie Williams, will also perform at the event.
The foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization formed to promote unity and equality in the Mat-Su by facilitating a forum to bring citizens and stakeholders together through education, communication, and social interactions.
Come celebrate and revitalize King’s dream of all community members living and thriving together at this once a year community celebration of his birthday.
The foundation provides a scholarship fund to provide financial support for a Mat-Su graduating high school student.
