It is impossible to fit the fullness of a life like Pamela Jean Hart’s into just a short passage, but it is with heavy hearts that we, her family, must try.
Pam passed away in Wasilla, Alaska on the evening of Friday, March 15th, 2019 at the age of 75. She spent her last day surrounded by family and friends, immersed in the shared memories and music she loved.
Known to her students as Mrs. Horton, Pam is perhaps best remembered by her life’s calling as a teacher. Through 42 years of teaching elementary school, Pam touched the lives of roughly one thousand students and their families. For many kids, Pam’s classroom was the safest and happiest place they knew, and she made sure to fill it up with singing, reading, and positive connection to their community. She was named a BP Teacher of Excellence in 2003. Pam loved music, and played several instruments, including guitar, bagpipes, flute, and piano. She also loved spending time outdoors with her family and her little rescue poodles, going fishing, camping, and clam digging. Over the years she enjoyed being involved in Willow United Methodist Church, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Valley Performing Arts, church mission trips, The Borealis Dancers, and driving the Willow Bookmobile.
Pam is survived by her sisters, Peggy Morrison (Dwight Morrison) and Patricia Hart (Tim Jewell); and by her daughters and their families, Tamara Jean Horton Saylor (Steve Saylor, Jachin, Kayleah, Corban), Summer Pearl Browning (Amy Browning), Heather Louise Bauman (James Bauman, Alexander); as well as her former husband of 26 years, Howard Horton.
Memorial to be held 2pm, Sunday, March 24th, at Willow United Methodist Church, Mile 67.5 Parks Highway.
Campfire, songs, and S’mores to follow. (Bring your coat and a camp chair!)
Pam’s smile and laughter have passed with her for now, but she lives on in the memories she made with us.
