‘Patriot Leathers’ offers motorcycle apparel, protective gear

WASILLA — There is a new spot in the Mat-Su Valley where riders can get all the gear needed to protect themselves, should they happen to hit the dirt.

Open since March in the Crossroads Center Mall, 3020 Lazy Eight Ct., on Bogard Road, Patriot Leathers sells motorcycle apparel, such as jackets, chaps, vests, rain gear, helmets, hoodies, gloves and accessories.

“We were really tired of paying exorbitant prices for leathers,” said owner Sue Mathis. “We sell quality leather at reasonable prices.”

Mathis and husband Linus are avid riders and say they’ve seen an increase in the number of riders in the Valley.

She said a lot of riders from Mat-Su Valley’s Christian Motorcycle Association have already been in the store.

The couple’s daughter, Lydia, also works at the store with her mother. And the family also continues to operate Frontier Christian Ministries, which they founded in 1997.

So far, Sue Mathis said interacting with riders who come in and share stories about their motorcycle adventures is her favorite part of operating Patriot Leathers.

“That part’s been fun,” she said.
