Chugiak men arrested
in connection with string of burglaries
Two Chugiak men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a number of residential burglaries and thefts ranging from the Mat-Su Valley to Anchorage.
Alaska State Troopers (AST) report arresting 21-year old Wade Williams Nov. 3 and charged 24-year old Jonathon Nesbitt for a reported nine incidents involving illegal credit card purchases totaling approximately $15,000. AST said it worked with both its Criminal Suppression Unit (CSU) and Anchorage Police Department in solving the rash of crimes.
Police say Nesbitt was already jailed in Anchorage on an unrelated case. His bail was increased an additional $50,000 on the new charges. Williams was taken into custody and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was held on $50,000 bail.

Nov. 4, 10:29 a.m., Engstrom Road, Wasilla. Troopers arrestes 39-year old Wasilla resident Jesse Smart for first-degree burglary and second-degree indecent exposire. According to reports, troopers responded to a complaint of a naked adult male attempting to break into a residence. Police say Smart had entered the home and exposed himself to a mother, who did not know the man, and her two children, aged three and two. EMS responded and was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Following a medical clearance, Smart was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility. His bail will be set at arraignment. He also was remanded on an unrelated $250 Anchorage Police Deaprtment warrant for failure to appear for a DWLR charge.
Nov. 4, 12:30 a.m., Copper Creek Drive, Wasilla. Police arrested 23-year old Oscar Nerguson of Wasilla on outstanding warrants for DUI, driving while license revoked, and failure to stop for a peace officer. He was remanded to Mat Su Pretrial Facility.
Nov. 3, 11:15 p.m., Anthony Road, Houston. Troopers arrested 35-year old Matthew Phillips of Anchorage for second-degree criminal trespass. According to reports, Phillips had entered a vehicle without the owner’s request and refused to leave. He was remanded to Mat Su Pretrial Facility.
Oct. 31, 9:50 a.m., Talkeetna. Troopers arrested 45-year old Joseph Watson of Talkeetna on a warrant alleging he placed two individuals in fear of imminent serious physical injury with a firearm. According to reports, troopers were called to a remote cabin on Sockeye Lake approximately 11 miles northeast of Talkeetna to investigate a disturbance complaint.
Police obtained a warrant for Watson’s arrest Nov. 2. Reports state Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to the area via helicopter investigating unrelated reported fishing violations. Watson was contacted, arrested on the outstanding warrant, and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was held on $5,250 bail.
Nov. 3, 1:50 a.m., Parks Highway, Wasilla. Troopers arrested 32-year old Daniel Nelson of Glennallen on two outstanding warrants after conducting a traffic stop. Police report Nelson, a passenger in the vehicle, had two outstanding warrants for his arrest from the Anchorage Police Department on the original charges of Driving while License Revoked and Theft. Nelson was turned over to the Anchorage Police Department for remand into Anchorage Correctional Facility.
Oct. 28, 2:05 p.m. Police continue its investigation into a reported bicycle from Carrs. The complainant reported a bicycle valued at approximately $600 had been stolen near the east exit of the store.
Oct. 28,1:31 p.m. East Sun Mountain Avenue. Police continue an investigation into a reported vehicle theft at Lithia Dodge. The complainant reported an individual had failed to return a loaner vehicle.
Oct. 28, 1:17 p.m. West Parks Highway. Police investigated a gun theft. The complainant reported someone had stolen a shotgun from his unlocked vehicle while it was parked at Mug-Shot Saloon.
Oct. 29, 2:02 a.m. Police arrested Derek Wilson Sr. for DUI after conducting a traffic stop. According to reports, officers received a report of a possible drunk driver. Wilson was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.
Oct. 29, 3:11 a.m., East Parks Highway-North Main Street. Police charged Steven Raynor with DUI and first-degree failing to stop at the direction of a police officer. Raynor allegedly attempted to flee at a high rate of speed after officers conducted a traffic stop. He was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held without bail until arraignment.
Oct 29, 1:37 p.m., Palmer Wasilla Highway-Parks Highway. After investigating a disturbance complaint, police arrested Barry Shepherd for second-degree assault. Police allege Shepherd assaulted someone with a knife. He was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and bail set at $1,500.
On October 29, 2.016 at 1501 hours, Wasilla· Police responded to the intersection of the Parks and Palmer Wasilla Highways for a motor vehicle collision. The driver was Barry Shepherd who exited his vehicle without placing it in park wt)en it rolled through the intersection and struck a street sign.
Oct. 29, 5:44 p.m., South Knik Goose Bay Road-Fern Street. Acting on several REDDI reports of a dangerous driver, police arrested Buffie Reamer for DUI and refusing to submit to a chemical test. A passenger, Tim Metcalf, was also arrested on resisting arrest and disorderly conduct charges. Reamer was transported to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility with bail set at $5,000 and a third-party custodian.
Oct. 29, 10:06 p.m. Palmer Wasilla Highway-Roberts Street. Police arrested Sarah Larson for DUI, misconduct involving a controlled substance and three counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. According to reports, officers stopped Larson’s vehicle after receiving a REDDI call. Police allege Larson was in possession of heroin which was hidden under one of the children. She was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility with bail set at $3,000.
Oct. 30, 1:07 a.m., North Church Road-West parks Highway. Stopping a vehicle operator for erratic driving, police arrested Renita Magnuson for DUI. She transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.
Oct. 30, 1:26 p.m., North Lucille Street. Police continue its investigation into the two reported thefts at King of Kings Church. Complainants reported their vehicles had been broken into and several items, including a firearm, had been stolen.
Oct. 30, 3:48 p.m., West Parks Highway. Police arrested Jamie Wooley at Value Village for second-degree criminal trespassing. Bond was set at $500 cash.
Oct. 30, 10:48 p.m., Glenkerry Drive. Charges of fourth-degree domestic violence assault and interfering with the report of domestic violence have been filed against Douglas Stroble. Police report responding to an alleged assault and the complainant reported her husband had assaulted her and then took her phone while she was calling 911 to report it. Officers were unable to locate Stroble but forwarded charges to the district attorney’s office.
Oct. 31, 10:15 a.m., North Lucille Street-West Isle Court. Police continue its investigation into the theft of a Honda generator and two saws from a new construction site.
Oct. 31, 12:11 p.m., East Parks Highway. Police continue an investigation into two boxes of found coins at Wells Fargo bank. Police believe the coins are stolen.
Oct. 31, 1:04 p.m., North Main Street. Police are investigating the theft of a purse and handgun. According to reports, a female left the items in her vehicle while inside the post office.
Oct. 31, 4:44 p.m., South Century Circle. Police are investigating a purse theft from an unlocked vehicle at the Wasilla Senior Center. A wallet and personal identification were inside.
Oct.31, 7:19 p.m., South Seward Meridian Parkway. Police charged Austin Frederick Sprague for fouruth-degree domestic violence assault. According to reports, officers responded to Wal-Mart on a reported assault complaint. Sprague was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was held without bail until arraignment.
Nov. 1, 1:48 a.m., North Peck Street-East Bogard Road. Following a traffic stop, police charged Steven Graham Kershner for DUI second offense, refusal to submit to a chemical test and improper use of evidence of registration. Officers state after conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of N. Peck Street and E. Bogard Road for misuse of license plates. He was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility with bail set at $10,000.
Nov. 1, 7:09 p.m., East Snohomish Avenue. Police are investigating the theft of a 52” television from the Alana Club.
