WASILLA — Dorothy G. Page Museum, 323 N. Main St., will display “Quilts of Valor Exhibit: An effort to spread a quilt of love and thanks around those who have served or been touched by war” through Dec. 7.

The public also is invited to a Quilts of Valor Second Saturday event from 2 to 4 p.m., Nov. 10. At that time, Quilts of Valor members will have quilt blocks for visitors to sign, which will be incorporated into a community quilt for presentation to a soldier or veteran.

Throughout the exhibit, Fridays also will be available for quilt block signing. Quilters are encouraged to come to the museum and work with Quilts of Valor members on new quilts each Friday.

Additionally, local residents have until Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. to make quilts with a patriotic theme and deliver them to the museum to give to military members. Quilts must be made with quality fabric, bound, quilted, washed, labeled and stored in a pillowcase to be ready for awarding. Basic quilt requirements are online at qovf.org/content/basic-qov-requirements.html.

Quilts will be shipped overseas or presented to local military service men and women. Quilters may choose to include a thank you card to the military member receiving the quilt.

Since Catherine Roberts started the Quilts of Valor organization in 2003 as a way to comfort and protect her son, Nathanael, who was deployed to Iraq, 69,633 quilts have been given to military warriors.

The Wasilla exhibit consists of local handmade quilts that will be given to military service men and women.

All donations for the month of November will go to postage costs for shipping the quilts.
