Response to the call to remove books from curriculum

To the editor:

The dark ages of ignorance exhibited by Mat-Su School Board members proposing to ban books from school curriculum backfired into a major outcry. Outrage far and near has shone a bright light on this stupidity and resulted in greatly increased book sales and cries for change. Personally, I wish school board members were as worried about predators of children as they are about withholding access to knowledge from our children.

The following quote sums up my feelings:

“Ideas are only lethal if you suppress and don’t discuss them. Ignorance is not bliss, it’s stupid. Banning books shows you don’t trust your kids to think and you don’t trust yourself to be able to talk to them.”
